Honor, discipline and hard work. Home of the Wolves at Desert Mountain High School.
Three years ago, Head Coach Jason Lopez took over this program with a simple but ambitious goal: pass along a lifelong love of wrestling to the next generation, and build something that didn't look like every other program in the Valley.
He built it on three things: honor, discipline, and hard work. Not as slogans on a wall, but as the standard for every single practice. If you've spent any time around our room, you've probably already heard the phrase that's become the heartbeat of this program:
It's not about being tough for the sake of it. It's about teaching a wrestler that discomfort is where the growth actually happens, and that they're capable of a lot more than they think once they stop trying to avoid the hard part.
Since then, the Wolves have grown into a real competition program, built by coaches who've lived this sport at the highest levels and run by a philosophy that never treats a freshman's first practice as less important than a state finals match. Every wrestler who walks through our doors gets the same standard, and the same respect.
Compete the right way, win or lose. Respect for opponents, officials and teammates.
Show up, make weight, do the work nobody sees. Every practice is the standard.
Wrestling doesn't let you hide. We teach wrestlers to keep working when it's genuinely hard, on the mat and off it.
Every coach on staff has wrestled or coached at a high level.
